Before you open the file

Let the transfer finish before you tap the file. Keep enough free storage for both the downloaded package and the installed app; the amount depends on the package and your phone.

If you already have an installed copy, review the update guide first. Keeping that copy in place helps avoid removing local data unnecessarily.

Complete the installation

1. Find your saved downloadOpen the browser menu and choose Downloads, or open Files and look in the Download folder. Pick the file you just downloaded.
2. Review the Android promptCheck the app name and details displayed by the installer. If Android cannot open the file, confirm the transfer completed.
3. Handle a source permission if askedSome Android versions ask whether this browser or file manager may install apps. Follow the prompt for that source only, then return to the installer.
4. Install and openTap the installation control shown by Android. When it finishes, choose Open or find the app in your app drawer.

After setup

Check that the app opens before deleting the downloaded package. You can turn off the browser’s or file manager’s installation permission after setup.

Android settings and wording vary by manufacturer and version. If the steps look different, use your phone’s settings search to find the installation permission for the app that opened the file.

If installation does not finish

Read the exact error message. An incomplete file, insufficient storage and a conflict with an installed copy are different problems. Do not repeatedly change unrelated phone settings.
